An old man returns a violin to Northwestern Settlement. Ms. Harriet Vittum lent it to him 80 years earlier, with the promise that he bring it back when he was done. With original music and lyrics inspired by Chicago’s cultural traditions, Reprise follows an immigrant story as we discover what he did with the instrument all those years, how he knew he was finished, and what it meant to keep his promise. The only North American company commissioned to participate in the National Theatre of Scotland’s Home/Away Festival, ASC will tell the story of this decades-long community connection during a limited 2-show engagement.
Reprise features Felipe Carrasco, Sindy I. Castro, Mara Dale, Jacob Kelly, La Shone Kelly, Jose Nateras, Kalman Strauss, and Justine C. Turner, with Brandon Wardell (lighting and scenic design); Jessica Kuehnau Wardell (costume and scenic design); and Jen Poulin (stage management).
About the Reprise production team:
Sarah Rose Graber (Director) Named one of 15 Women to Watch in 2015 by Today’s Chicago Woman magazine, Sarah Rose is a performer, director, and teaching artist working in both Chicago and the United Kingdom, and is an ensemble member with Adventure Stage Chicago. She received a US-UK Fulbright Scholarship from 2013-14 to study devising theatre. Originally from Miami, FL, she attended Northwestern University, where she received her degree in Theatre and completed her thesis in Performance Studies. She trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, which piqued her interest in the international theatre scene. This led to Graber winning the Circumnavigator Scholar Grant, with which she travelled completely around the world to Scotland, England, South Africa, Kenya, Mauritius, Western Australia, New South Wales, New Zealand, and Argentina to study theatre for social change.
John Szymanski (Composer/Music Director) is excited to be making his Adventure Stage Chicago debut. Recent credits include One Came Home (Lifeline Theatre, Jeff nomination for original music in a play), Ulysses (the Plagiarists), Trust Us/Screw You (the Neo-Futurists), and The Whiskey Radio Hour (the Whiskey Rebellion). John is an Artistic Associate with the Neo-Futurists, and is active as a musician, composer, audio engineer and producer throughout the Chicago area and beyond.
Casey Pilkenton (Producer) is a producer/writer/performer based out of Chicago. She previously worked as Production Manager with Second City, producing live events and shows for small businesses and Fortune 500 companies. Pilkenton co-founded and performs with Forks & Hope ensemble and is a frequent contributor to Chicago’s live lit scene as a storyteller. No stranger to festival work, she has produced and performed at Edinburgh Fringe, Cincy Fringe Fest, and was an Executive Producer for Snubfest 2016. Casey earned an Outstanding Solo Performance Award (2012) from the League of Cincinnati Theatres for her self-produced, original show, Trapped in a Box.
