Partnerships between nonprofit organizations and local government can play a major role in empowering citizens and fostering resilient communities. As a pillar of the Noble Square and West Town neighborhoods on Chicago’s Northwest Side, Northwestern Settlement is committed to engaging with our elected officials to better serve the people of Chicago in our local districts and throughout the city.
With the redistricting process redrawing the city’s wards following the 2020 census, the Settlement is now located in Chicago’s first ward. On June 1st, First Ward Alderman Daniel La Spata visited Northwestern Settlement, receiving a general introduction and tour of the one-hundred-and-thirty-year-old institution. The Alderman spent time with some of the young learners in Northwestern Settlement’s Early Childhood Education program, met two graduating Rowe eighth-grade scholars, and discussed key priorities and areas of potential collaboration with Settlement staff. All in all, it was a fruitful visit to mark the start of a productive future relationship with the alderman’s office.
